Jaccob Slavin inks a seven-year extension with the Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes and defenseman Jaccob Slavin have agreed to a seven-year contract extension worth $37.1 million.

What It Means:

The 23-year-old still has one year left on his current contract, and he's now locked up as a cornerstone for the Canes moving forward.

Slavin notched 34 points (29 goals and 5 assists) while racking up 99 shots on goal and blocking 161 shots last season. His 2.5% relative Corsi For Percentage at even strength ranked second among Carolina defensemen.

Lightning sign Tyler Johnson to seven-year deal

The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed center Tyler Johnson to a seven-year, $35 million contract extension.

What It Means:

Johnson, a restricted free agent, had filed for arbitration, but this is a nice increase for the 26-year-old. He had previously made $10 million over the previous three seasons with Tampa Bay.

In 2016-17, Johnson tallied just 45 points with 19 goals in 66 games. That's somewhat disappointing in light of back-to-back 50-plus point seasons in 2013-14 and 2014-15. The Lightning will hope for more of Johnson's earlier seasons going forward.

Penguins' Marc-Andre Fleury accepts waiver of no-move clause

Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury has agreed to accept the team's request for him to waive his no-move clause for the upcoming expansion draft.

What It Means:

If they so wish, the Las Vegas Golden Knights could make Fleury the franchise's first netminder. That means 23-year-old Matt Murray will be the Penguins' starting goaltender for the foreseeable future.

In 15 playoff appearances, Fleury went 9-6 and accumulated a save percentage of .924 for the NHL-champion Penguins.

Frederick Gaudreau's goal in Game 4 makes history as Predators tie series

Nashville Predators center Frederick Gaudreau's game-winning goal Monday night made history.

What It Means:

Gaudreau is now only the second player in NHL history to score his first three career goals in a Stanley Cup Final. The only other is John Harms in 1944 for the Chicago Blackhawks. After not scoring in Game 2, Gaudreau has scored in Games 3 and 4 and both have been game winners.

Gaudreau has hit three of his four shots on goal this Cup Final and Game 4 he scored in just over nine minutes if ice time.

Filip Forsberg scores as Predators tie Stanley Cup Finals 2-2

Nashville Predators forward Filip Forsberg scored his ninth goal of the postseason to help the Preds defeat the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1 in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final on Monday night.

What It Means:

Forsgerg's goal came on an empty net late in the third period with the Predators already holding a 3-1 lead. He led Nashville in shots on goal with four on Monday night and now he helps set up a pivotal Game 5 in Pittsburgh on Thursday night.

Forsgerg's goal was his first of the Cup Finals and his first point scored over his last four games. Throughout the playoffs, Forsgerg has nine goals and 16 total points over 20 games.
